Interested in learning about disaster preparedness for your home, or to help your neighbors and your community? Come talk to CERT team leaders and trainers today at the Astoria Service Fair at the old Astoria Train Station next to the Columbia River Maritime Museum at 20th & Marine Drive in Astoria. CERT training starts soon – with either weekend or weekday evening classes available!

The Astoria CERT program operates as part of Astoria Fire & Rescue.

Our first team started training in January 2007, and completed initial training on March 10, 2007. Astoria CERT has a quarterly training schedule for CERT members, and has helped to train many additional CERT members in Astoria and surrounding communities.

Astoria CERT has been deployed to assist Astoria Fire & Rescue and surrounding communities for several emergencies, including a 2007 Astoria landslide, the devastating December 2007 Coastal Gale (a declared disaster in four Oregon counties), the December 2008 Jewell/Elsie power outage and snow emergency, and others.

Astoria CERT also works to prepare others in the community for disasters by participating in preparedness fairs and emergency drills, such as the recent Seaside Emergency Preparedness Fair and the Cascadia Peril Exercise.
